Interface in molten polymer mixtures near the consolute point

چکیده
2014 The interfacial properties of a system of molten polymers at a temperature just below the critical temperature of demixing are studied in the framework of a mean field theory. The properties of the interface are very specific, the interface is much larger than those of usual binary liquids and the interfacial tension is much smaller so that only optical methods will permit experimental study. Thermodiffusion in the Critical Region
Long range fluctuations of the order parameter affect thermodynamic as well as transport properties in the critical region. The values of transport coefficients near a critical point are typically enhanced compared to the values in the classical region far away from a critical point. Asymptotically close to a critical point, the critical enhancements obey power laws with universal critical expo...
متن کاملlntedacial Tension Near the Tricritical Point in 3He--4He Mixtures
The same relationship holds for the interfacial tension o-i at the consolute critical point (the critical point for phase separation) of a binary fluid mixture. Up to now no rigorous theory links the interfacial tension to properties of the bulk system. However, a phenomenological approach which should be valid in the vicinity of the critical point has been developed by Fisk and Widom. 2 Accord...
متن کاملRescaled density expansions and demixing in hard-sphere binary mixtures.
The demixing transition of a binary fluid mixture of additive hard spheres is analyzed for different size asymmetries by starting from the exact low-density expansion of the pressure. Already within the second virial approximation the fluid separates into two phases of different composition with a lower consolute critical point. By successively incorporating the third, fourth, and fifth virial ...
متن کاملPhase-Destabilization Mechanism of Polymer-Modified Bitumens in Quiescent Annealing
Bitumen as a binder in coating and insulating materials is modified with polymers to improve its performance in service conditions. Almost all polymers are incompatible with bitumen, and at high temperatures due to relatively very low viscosity of the bitumen phase, are separated from it. These lead to a considerable limitation in the use and handling of polymer-modified bitumens. An understand...
متن کاملTechnical Effects of Air Cooled Blast Furnace Slag on Asphalt Mixtures
Air cooled blast furnace slag is a by product made of gradually air cooled molten blast furnace slag and is often stored in stockpiles near the iron mills and usually occupy a wide area around the iron mills. From this perspective the further use of these materials can have its own merits. Air cooled blast furnace slag can be used in asphalt mixtures because of their proper frictional propertie...
